HOW TO NAIL A PERVERT 3 Pages - Page 2

Starting from scrap
In television land, the detectives involved in such cases always go out and "pick someone up for questioning". You citizens love this: you always want to know why cops won't do it. While this is a great concept, it doesn't follow the mandates of the United States Constitution, or the Bill of Rights. Fortunately, we are allowed to make contact with criminals and ask if they are willing to come with us to be interviewed. We decided that it would be best if I did this with Larry. I tried to get some background information on Larry, but came up with zilch: no known criminal history, no drivers license and he appeared to be such a stupid that no one knew much about him. The people who knew Larry could tell me about him was that he had a repulsive skin problem, and liked to hang out at Burger King to watch kids play. The only thing I could discern about Larry from what I had been told is that he probably had difficulty relating to adults, which I had learned is common with most child molesters.

Establishing rapport
I found Larry at his residence, which was an open air garage filled with old automobile parts and a smelly army cot. He was in the process of frying some fish that he had caught in a nearby, polluted stream. His skin condition was worse than I had been told. His skin was literally peeling from every exposed area of his body that I could see and he looked like a monster. It was obvious that Larry would have a hard time socializing with adults on the basis of his disgusting appearance alone.
I asked Larry if he would accompany me to the police station in order to talk about something. While visibly nervous, he agreed to do so. He frequently asked me what I wanted to talk about - but I told him I would rather speak in private about the matter, in a comfortable setting. While en route to the station in my car, I lied to Larry that my wife had recently died and that I was experiencing difficulties getting back into the singles scene to find another. Larry listened with interest to this, so I developed my tactics a little further: I asked Larry if he knew of any young chicks that I might be interested in. I asked this in a manner that indicated that I thought Larry was a real swinger, whom I could look to for advice. Larry began telling me of his fling with the victim's mother, and how she had dumped him for a younger guy. We then talked about "those damned bitches", and I told Larry that I considered younger chicks far better than older, as they were less likely to be be a pain. I showed him a picture I had borrowed from another officer, that showed the officer's 10 year old daughter. I told him that the girl was 16, and that I really digged her, but remarked that she "looked like she was 21." By this time I had it all figured out how I could nail the freak.

Using the Bait Question
When we got to the station, Larry and I talked about bass fishing, and some of the pros and cons of using different locations. By this time, Larry was extremely comfortable with me and even offered to take me fishing. I hid my repulsion very well. I decided that sufficient rapport had been developed between us, and moved into the investigation. I asked Larry some regular questions, such as his name, date of birth and home address. This gave me a baseline on his normal, unstressed behavior. I then asked him several questions that would indicate whether or not Larry was a viable suspect in this case. When asked specific questions about the case, Larry became very upset when he shouldn't have if innocent. Larry scored out as being liar during the interview. But his biggest mistake was in his reaction to my reknown Bait Question, which went like this:
Larry, you know that science can do remarkable things these days with human blood. Do you remember how the Center For Disease Control was able to prove that a Florida dentist gave those patients AIDS by matching his blood to theirs? Larry, I'm sure you've heard that having sex with one person is like having sex with anyone they've ever been with. Larry, I'm not saying you did this thing, but when we test (the victim's) blood, is there any reason we would find that traces of your genetic material in her?"
Larry's answer to this?
"Well, maybe through kissing. . ."
Larry was sure at this point that I knew and could prove he committed this disgusting crime. He felt there was some sort of high powered physical evidence against him, even though there was nothing.
